My Air India Experience

Like everything else on this site, this is a rant. I booked flights with Air India many months ago and after constant itinerary updates and a few threats to the flights, namely India and Pakistan kicking off and the Air India crash, they cancelled the flights a few days ago. Of course they didn't actually tell me the flights were cancelled, only that once again that there were 'changes' to my itinerary (which I had learned could mean anything from taking off five minutes earlier to flying from a completely different airport) which upon closer inspection involved the cancellation of my Delhi to Tokyo flight, not to worry, my London to Delhi and return flights were still booked so at least I could go and get stranded in Delhi for a month. The saving grace is that I got the tickets through booking.com who promptly refunded me, although five quid short for some reason but I can't be bothered to nag them for such a trivial amount. I rebooked with Emirates which is the cheapest flight available a month before so I'm looking forward to being on the huge Airbuses, although this has cost me an extra 200 quid on an already expensive trip. I think £200 to go from Air India (which doesn't exactly have the best reputation at the moment) to Emirates is not that big a loss, and the flights are a lot quicker too.

Can I just mention how bad the Air India site is too? On the page which shows one's flights there was conflicting information even when my flights were still meant to be going ahead. The top of the page had a popup that said something along the lines of "Some bookings are unconfirmed" while all the flights said "confirmed" next to them.

Avoid Air India if at all possible EVEN IF IT COSTS A BIT MORE! I was lucky to get one of the last Emirates flights of a certain price band but you really don't want to be booking new flights close to the date of travel because Air India gave up.
